1832 - “this health-restoring portion of the British empire”

This lavishly illustrated book suggests that Lake District tourism is beneficial, indeed healthy, on an imperial scale: “In no part of the world are tourists treated with more respectful attention, and on more reasonable charges, than at this health-restoring portion of the British empire.”
